So what are the advantages of running a Content Management System (CMS) on your website?
The main advantage of a CMS is that non technical users can update the site themselves without the need to know HTML, CSS, PHP or ASP.NET. this can be carried out from any PC connected to the internet that has a compatible web browser.

Themes can be created and installed which can give you dropdown and sub menus as required, the theme also controls the font and layout of the complete site. With WordPress lots of free plugins are available to customise your site and get it working exactly how you want.

Different user authorisations can be set up to administer the site. These users can then update the content pages themselves including adding/deleting images, text and rich media such as videos and Flash animations.
The menu system is automatically updated as you add new pages and categories to the site.
Gallery’s and forum style blogs can also be added to the site.

These are just a few reasons for having a CMS but i think the initial set up cost can be justified as the site owner is then in complete control until a re-design or structure update is required.

The site is now starting to fill up, basically I’m moving all my content over from a Joomla platform to a WordPress one.

The site now has graphics in every page, it was a straight forward process once the site shell had been created.

You too could update your own website and not be dependant on web developers for this work with a content managed website!

Hello and welcome to the new FatFingerz website. I’m currently working on getting this site filled with cool examples of  Content Management Systems (CMS) and websites that use these systems.

The main two systems I use are both open source e.g. they are free to use and are in my opinion the best two open source CMS’s on the market.

Believe me I have tried other but have always come back to these two!
